Mondays…

The raisin in your cookie when you’re expecting a chocolate chip… Sigh.

Okay, to be fair, I really like oatmeal raisin cookies but, I think you all know the kind of disappointment I’m talking about here.  Your weekend has ended, you have to go back to work, and earn the money, and do the things.

Well, for me, today is kind of like my Friday, so while I should be extremely excited that I get to take the next couple of days to myself, I’m not.  Yesterday, I was suffering from an awful sinus headache and went to bed early, only to be woken up at 6a.m. by my brother and his friend being obnoxiously loud.  (Go figure.)

And instead of being able to go back to sleep, despite some begging, a frew tears, and the thought of implementing the help of some ZzzQuil, I got up, showered, and planted myself at one of my both favorite and least favorite places in the world; my desk.  Being the author that I am (or rather, would like to be someday) my writing desk is normally where the magic happens.

From there, I got to work on the Skeleton Draft that is almost finished.  Seeing as it’s only October 5th, I’d say that’s pretty good I guess but, I also know that if I allow myself to slow down or stop now, that I won’t finish in time for NaNoWriMo.  (It works if you work it.)

I also found some pretty great things these past couple of days.

The first being Duolingo- which, I’m not sure counts because, I’ve been working on the lessons for the past 13-days.  However, I’m having fun with it, and it’s a good way to destress when I get caught up or stuck.  And to be honest with you, 5-10 minutes a day isn’t all that much time.  Will I learn a whole language by doing this?  I don’t know.  But the possibility is enough to keep me going for now.

The second is thanks to a Youtuber and fellow author that I follow and adore, Natalia Leigh.  Now, I’ve tried out quite a few writing software programs and packages in the past couple years, and to tell you the truth, I think I’ve hated all of them.  Scrivener while nice on the surface, is awfully pricey, and can be very hard to navigate for newcomers.  I myself got frustrated and wound up leaving the platform altogether after only a couple of days.  Dabble Writer was another writing tool that I tried, and while I loved the fact that it was cloud-based and that I could work both on and offline, I noticed that at least for me, it was still easier to pop open a Microsoft Word tab and go at my writing that way.

Campfire Blaze, however, has a much more user friendly set up and interface, and I like that I don’t need to pay extra in order to use the “Pro” features like you normally would on similar programs.  But it’s only been a couple of days so far, so I still have time to change my mind about it.  I do however plan to use Campfire Blaze exclusively for Preptober if I can!

Can we also talk about her awesome donation based 2020 Preptober Workbook for a second?  Because I don’t think I’d have a villain for my project without her.  I may have had his name, and a vague idea of what I wanted my villain to be but, with the help of the “Build Your Villain” page, he’s really starting to build up off the page.  I’m getting more of a 3D image of who and what my villain is, and less of this 2D “conquer the world and kill everyone” villain stereotype!

It’s been great so far.

But, here it is, almost midnight so that means my night at work is almost over because I have the MRI of my leg tomorrow to figure out just what the hell is going on inside.  Because whereas a normal sprain would’ve been healed by now, I am not.  I can roll and twist my right ankle and foot around easily, whereas I’m still having trouble putting too much pressure on my left, and can barely move it up and down, with no ability to move it side to side.  But I’m sure I’ll write more about that tomorrow.

For now, goodnight, and sweet dreams.
