I never saw myself as the sentimental type. Not when it came to something like this.
Okay, that’s a lie. I’m a lot more sentimental than most people think, and even though it’s been a long time coming, I’m both sad and excited to announce the end of an era, and the beginning of a new age. My car, my Juke, my baby is retiring. We had a good run, don’t get me wrong, she was good to me for a long time. But, unfortunately, with her age, the miles on her, and the issues she’s having, it’s time to say goodbye to Roswell.
My Alien. The UFO. The last car I picked out with my mom. The car Angel learned to drive in. The car I learned to drive in, in my own ways, zipping up and down roads in Wisconsin and Richmond. The first car I ever customized with Totoro on the dashboard, my Jack Skellington sticker on the back, the peace sign, and the license plate cover my friends Frank and Diane gave me when I first got her. This was the car that gave me freedom, and confidence, and I will love her forever.
All those things will come with me, either physically or in memory. And Roswell will forever have a place in my heart. Don’t you dare think for a single second that this is going to stop me from excitedly squealing “Juke!” every time I see one rolling own the road because, it won’t. I will forever be excited to see Nissan Jukes.
Sunday, October 10th will be her last trip to Gigi’s, and I’m going to make it count. I’ll take her down the crappy farm road one last time, and under the graffiti bridge. I’ll blast “Lass uns gehen” as loud as I can, just like I did the first time and I’ll sing my fucking heart out. Because wherever I go, she’ll be there with me in spirit.
In her stead, I’ll be picking up a 2015 Jeep Renegade.
Just typing that makes me tear me. Crap. I’m not sure what hurts me more, the fact my brother Matthew is actually going to get the satisfaction of seeing me in a Jeep, or that my Juke won’t be with me anymore. If everything goes according to plan, she’ll be picked up on Monday. I’m getting a great deal, especially for something with 4WD, remote start, and most of all, new brakes and brand-new tires, and right before winter too. I have a few names in mind but, I don’t want to jump the gun just yet.
(Though if I’m 100% honest, I already know her name.)
Pictures are yet to come.
