(TW: Self-doubt, light mention of medical)
Today is November 1st, and that officially means two things. Firstly, it is no longer “official” spooky season, as if that’s going to stop me from being my usual spooky self. Not many things make me happy- however, Halloween, and all things spooky will forever be one of the only things that do. So, for anyone who wants to tell me “spooky season is over” they can fuck right off. Let me have my happiness, damn it.
Secondly, today is the first day of NaNoWriMo. If you didn’t know, NaNoWriMo stands for “National Novel Writing Month” an event where writers from all over the world band together and try to write 50,000 words in 30-days, which roughly translates to about 175 pages. The first NaNoWriMo was held by Chris Baty in 1999 in the San Francisco Bay area with 21 participants, and today it’s become somewhat of an online phenomenon, where participants are from all over the world. I’ve participated a handful of times over the years, winning only once or twice, while other times I’ve had to either throw in the towel early due to health concerns, and writer’s block.
This year, I wasn’t quite so sure I wanted to participate, seeing as how bad my health has been this year. However, I am pleased to announce that I am going to be doing NaNoWriMo 2022. I want to get serious about my writing, and I feel like participating in this year’s contest is going to help me get that much closer to my goal of being an author. So, my project for NaNo2022 is going to be a story that I originally started writing years ago called “Inner Demons” which was once a failed NaNo project that I have since completely rewired and gotten set up to be rewritten.
My wordcount for NaNo Day #1: is 2,553 words!
I think it’s fair to say that I’m proud of myself for starting off strong. This year, I’m going to be using a mixture of Dabble, Chapterly, and Microsoft Word to write my story, and so far, I’m very happy with all three of these programs. In the near future, I plan to be making a review on all three, so I don’t want to get too into that right now. But, seeing as I’ve hit my wordcount, and exceeded my daily writing goal in the midst of an insane pain flare… I think it’s time for me to grab my Kindle and go curl up with the current book that I’m reading called “My Dearest Darkest” by Kayla Cottingham.
(Review to come?)
In fact, I think there’s going to be a lot of reviews to come in the not so distant future, seeing as I took some time earlier this week to go on Goodreads and review some of the other books that I’ve been reading as of lately. One of the books that I’m most excited to review further is called “One in Every Generation” by Kendare Blake, a story set in the Buffyverse. Unfortunately, I don’t have a whole lot of good to say, seeing as I did DNF the book. But, I’ll have quite a bit more to say about it here than I did on Goodreads.
Until next time,
-Sky
