(TW: Spicy Books, 18+)
If you follow me on TikTok, then you probably already know that I got my first ever book mail, and from one of my favorite authors, Rebecca F. Kenney. Her books, such as Hades, and the Sea Witch retelling on Kindle Valla (which comes out as a whole book on the 26th! Yay!) are some of my absolute favorite reads of all time. Both of which, I will be writing a whole set of reviews on, and posting here, Amazon, and Goodreads, as always in the very near future. However, I don’t want to talk about those stories today because, I want to talk about A Court of Sugar and Spice!
A couple weeks ago, she popped up on my FYP on TikTok saying that she was going to send out some mini book boxes, and if you wanted to sign up, then there was a little questionnaire in her bio. I clicked it immediately, and filled it out as fast as I could because obviously, who doesn’t want to get a signed book from one of their favorite authors, right? Well, I didn’t hear anything back, and I didn’t get an email or anything so I kind of forgot about it honestly. (ADHD and brain fog will do that to you.)
But I totally screamed when I saw it, and I couldn’t wait to open it up. I’ll leave my little unboxing linked right here, if you want to go see it. Otherwise, feel free to go follow me on TikTok @author.skyla.narissa which is also in my link, which you can find at the end of this post.

Now, I haven’t gotten too far in the book yet, unfortunately. Today I had to go for allergy shots, and aside from that, I’ve been trying to catch up on my wordcount for NaNoWriMo but, I will be setting aside some time after I finish this post to really dig my teeth into this book. So, there will be a review up here, Amazon, and on Goodreads in the not so distant future, I promise!
A Court of Sugar and Spice is a Nutcracker retelling, which is something that I think is both super creative, and incredibly understated. Especially since the Nutcracker is one of my absolute, and all-time favorite ballets, and you simply don’t find any retellings, unlike with a lot of other fairytales and classic literature, that you can find retellings of fairly easily. I will say though that this is one of those sassy, spicy fantasy romance stories, though, so if you’re under 18, I think you should probably sit this one out.
So… what did I get?

I got a copy of A Court of Sugar and Spice, signed by the amazing author! <Insert Obnoxious Screaming here> It’s all so pretty!
I also got some beautiful artwork of Finias, The Sugarplum Faerie, a sticker with Finias on it, a bookmark, and a cute sticker that says “sample my sugarplums.” On top of that I got a bookmark with the cover art that says “I’m a damn treat” art of Cailin and Perish from Healer to the Ash King, some beautiful art of Arawn and Vale from Jailer to the Death God. Finally, I also got a beautiful bookmark for Pawn of the Cruel Princess with some beautiful artwork on it as well!
I was not in any way expecting it but, I am so thankful and so thrilled to have it, honestly! If you like spicy books, especially with Faeries, then I think you’re going to love this! And if the Nutcracker just isn’t your thing, go ahead and check out Rebecca F. Kenney’s other stories, and retellings because I guarantee that you will find one you’re going to like! Thank you again, Rebecca if you’re reading this, I absolutely cannot wait to read this! A review will also be coming as soon as I finish the book!
Thanks for reading, I’m off to do some reading!
