Well, the garden saga continues!
🌪️ Illinois threw a tantrum, pelting us with hail, whipping winds, and a side of thunderstorms, so our planting got paused mid-battle. I’m convinced the storm was a cryptid itself, out to sabotage my zucchini. One of the poor things took a beating, but we hit the garden with a magnesium boost, calcium, and water today in an effort to revive it. Cross your claws for me. 🫣
[Quick Update from the Dark Side: the zucchini have perked back up but the one parsley we got this year is still in questionable shape.]
On the brighter side, all our current plants are in the ground as of yesterday — melons, cucumbers, raspberry bushes, the whole chaotic crew. Now we just wait for the raspberries to do their thing. If I end up with a bumper crop, there’s a non-zero chance I’ll be hoarding them like a particularly aggressive forest cryptid.
[Okay, let’s be real here- just like last year, the bumper crop, all of those cryptid gods willing, will be heading off to friends, family, doctors’ offices, and our friends and family at the food pantry. We may be cryptids but we LOVE our community around here! They take care of us, and we try to return the love in any way we can.]
Oh, and in other news, Luna went on a little library adventure with Babe and I today. She was, as always, a perfect little ghost hunter — no chaos, just vibes. Hard to believe she’s the same skinny, scared little pupper I brought home a year ago. She’s blossomed into the most confident, chaotic, perfect creature, and I couldn’t be more proud. 💛
Until next time, may your zucchini be strong, your raspberries sweet, and your chaos well-contained. 👻🖤
