Trigger Warning: Mentions of anxiety, depression, trauma, and systemic stress (no graphic details).
The Crippled Cryptid may be home to all things spooky and strange, but even cryptids need a little care sometimes. Today is World Mental Health Day, a global reminder that our minds deserve rest, compassion, and protection-just like our bodies do.
And like someone loving and dear to me reminded me last night, we also deserve rest. (Something I havenât given myself enough of lately.)
This year, mental health awareness feels especially vital. Many of us are living in communities full of uncertainty, fear, and stress- especially with the rise in ICE activity and other local tensions that make daily life feel heavier. Itâs okay to admit that the world feels like a haunted forest right now. You donât have to face it alone, and you donât have to pretend youâre not scared.
Even Iâm scared- scared of leaving my house, of seeing the chaos, the frustration people are exhibiting, and the growing hostility thatâs brewing in the world. Peopleâs mental health is fragile right now because we are all feeling tension and strain. Itâs taking a toll not just here in the U.S., where I live and was born, but across the world. I have family in other countries, and I know they, too, are feeling the stress and the weight of it all.
Even the bravest monster gets tired. Even the strongest witch needs rest. And even the kindest heart can ache under too much weight.
If youâve been feeling anxious, depressed, dissociated, or just plain off, please know that youâre not broken- youâre surviving. Youâre adapting. Youâre still here, and thatâs something to celebrate. Reaching out for help doesnât make you weak; it means youâve chosen to keep walking toward the light, even when the trees grow thick and the fog clouds your way.

If youâre reading this and thinking, âBut I donât have the energy to reach out right now,â– thatâs okay, and that too is valid. Take a breath. Pet your dog (Luna and Bear both recommend this one đž). Drink some water. Step outside for a moment- or even just crack a window- and feel the air. You donât have to fix everything today. You only have to make it to the next moment, and the next, until you can see the sunrise again.
World Mental Health Day isnât just about awareness- itâs about connection. So, letâs be gentle cryptids today. Letâs look out for one another. Check on your friends, your neighbors, your community members. Offer compassion where fear has taken root.
Because here in the Cryptid woods, no one wanders alone.
đ You are loved. You are seen. You belong here.
And remember- my DMs are always open.
