🕯️ Introducing: Folklore Wednesdays 🕯️

A Bi-Weekly Dive into the Strange, Supernatural, and Sacred

Welcome to Folklore Wednesdays, a bi-weekly mini-series from The Crippled Cryptid where we crack open dusty books, peer behind the veil, and whisper the names that ought not be spoken. This is where old tales meet new perspectives- and where myth, magic, and mystery collide.

At its core, Folklore Wednesdays is a space to explore all things folkloric, supernatural, and cryptid in nature. Whether it’s the changeling child left behind in a mossy cradle, the ghost light flickering over bog water, or the cryptid lurking just past the treeline- we’re going to talk about it. Fearlessly. With curiosity, reverence, and maybe a touch of dark humor.

But this isn’t just a deep dive into shadowed woods and half-remembered legends.

This series is also a space for reflection, reclamation, and resistance.

🏳️‍🌈 Pride & Power: Queer Folklore

During Pride Month, I’ll be featuring special posts that blend queer identity with folkloric traditions. One post I’m especially excited for? Why you should never give your True Name to the Fae- or why maybe, just maybe, you should. Because what happens when the name you were given was never yours to begin with? What if giving it away is a spell of freedom, not danger?

These posts will look at how queer people have always existed within, under, and around the edges of folklore- sometimes hidden, sometimes powerful, sometimes punished. Always present.

🌍 Looking Forward: Centering Marginalized Voices

As Folklore Wednesdays grows, I hope to expand beyond Western myths and cryptids. Folklore belongs to everyone, and many of the most powerful, beautiful, and heartbreaking stories come from cultures that have been historically erased, silenced, or commodified.

I don’t want to just talk about those stories. I want to share the mic.

Eventually, I’d love to collaborate with other creators and marginalized voices- disabled (more than just myself), queer, Indigenous, neurodivergent, and otherwise oppressed storytellers- to help them tell their own tales. Because those stories deserve to be heard, honored, and protected.

What to Expect

You can expect new Folklore Wednesdays posts every other week, including:

  • Changelings, true names, and protective charms
  • Cryptids, from Mothman to creatures you’ve never heard of
  • Queer-coded folklore and myth
  • Deep dives into specific legends, hauntings, and cursed objects
  • Historical crimes with folkloric roots
  • And in the future: guest features and collaborative folklore spotlights

And if you’re someone looking to collab- chat about some folklore, and do a post on your page, and mine, please reach out. All of my socials are in my linktree and I’ll post that again here, or in the socials tab here on the blog. I love you, and I look forward to hearing from you!

So, light a candle. Lock the door. Whisper your real name only to the trees.

And join me every other Wednesday-

For Folklore Wednesdays on The Crippled Cryptid.
